Family advisory & education

Putting ‘us’ into family business.

FULFIL helps families connected through business and shared wealth build and sustain harmony. Drawing on social, organisational and clinical psychology, we work with different perspectives to strengthen shared identity, support family decisions and shape what comes next together.

How we can help

  • Family alignment and shared direction

Understand different priorities and develop shared goals, while respecting family, ownership and business roles.

  • Facilitated family decision-making

Work through differences, clarify who needs to be involved and develop shared direction together.

  • Ongoing advice and support

Put agreements into practice, with ongoing guidance as leadership, ownership and family circumstances evolve.

A shared challenge, across cultures and generations

Across cultures, families have recognised the challenge of sustaining what they have built across generations. These Japanese and Italian sayings reflect that concern—but they are not predictions about any family or judgments about particular generations.

Continuity involves more than transferring wealth, ownership or leadership. It also means understanding different aspirations, making room for evolving roles and strengthening what connects the family.

“The family splits between the second and third generation”

“la famiglia si spacca tra la seconda e la terza generazione”

Every generation has a part in shaping what comes next.

FULFIL helps families develop a shared sense of ‘us’ that supports harmony, shared decisions and the legacy they want to shape together.

Where we can help

Applying the science of ‘us’ to families, business and shared wealth

Every family brings together different experiences, priorities and hopes for the future. We help families strengthen a shared sense of ‘us’ while respecting these differences—supporting harmony, clear decisions and shared direction across generations.

  • Preparing for succession

Transferring ownership, handing over business leadership and changing family responsibilities each raise different questions. We help families clarify expectations and prepare for these transitions, recognising where they overlap and where they differ.

  • Exploring roles across generations

Each generation brings its own aspirations. We help families explore meaningful ways to contribute and belong, whether members choose involvement in the business, take on ownership responsibilities or pursue a different path.

  • Working through different perspectives

Generations, family branches, owners and those with different levels of business involvement may see things differently. We help families understand these perspectives and develop goals they can support while making room for distinct priorities.

  • Making decisions together

Family, ownership and business decisions involve different responsibilities. We help clarify whose perspectives need to be heard, who holds decision-making authority and how people can work together within their governance arrangements.

  • Finding direction after a business sale

Selling a business can change the roles, routines and purpose that have connected a family. We help families explore what they want to carry forward and develop shared direction for their lives, wealth and future endeavours.

  • Staying connected through life changes

Retirement, bereavement, separation or new family relationships can reshape roles and responsibilities. We help families consider what these changes mean for participation, shared commitments and how they work together.

How we work

Building a shared way forward

We begin with your family and the perspectives that matter to its members. Together, we build shared direction while respecting different aspirations and responsibilities across family, ownership and business life.

  1. Understand your family

We explore your family’s history, relationships and connections to business and shared wealth. We listen to how members see themselves, where they feel they belong and which groups and roles matter to them.

  2. Give different perspectives space

We work with the groups that matter within your family, which may include generations, family branches or people with shared responsibilities. Each has space to explore its priorities, aspirations and concerns before bringing these perspectives together.

  3. Shape a shared direction

We bring these perspectives together to develop shared goals and commitments. We work through differences, identify what people can support together and recognise where distinct priorities need room alongside shared direction.

  4. Put it into practice

Together, we turn shared goals into practical actions and ways of working. We clarify participation and responsibilities, respect existing decision-making authority and agree how progress will be reviewed and plans adapted.

Grounded in social psychology

Our approach draws on ASPIRe—Actualizing Social and Personal Identity Resources. Developed and studied in organisational settings, the framework works with existing group identities to build shared goals and collective action. FULFIL adapts these principles to each family’s circumstances.

Shaped around your family

We agree the focus, pace and participation with your family. The work may combine individual conversations, discussions within family groups and sessions together, with relevant advisers involved where agreed. Ongoing support helps put commitments into practice and review what is working.
